The 2011 Fiesta! Punters' Pick

The 2011 Fleurieu Peninsula Food’s Fiesta! Olive Awards celebrate the region’s premium olives and oils. A regional competition seeking local varietal characters in extra virgin olive oils and table olives.

Farmers Markets celebrate regional flavour presenting Punters’ Pick! Both Willunga Farmers Market and Victor Harbor Farmers Market hosted the Punter's Pick.

The scores were very close this year, only a few points separating the winners. The top four oils presented were Talinga Grove, Serendipity, Diana Extra Virgin and Hugo.

After the official judging for the Fleurieu Olive awards, the highest scoring oils will be offered for tasting for the "Punters’ Pick". This is a people’s choice award held at the Victor Harbor Farmers Market and Willunga Farmers Market during the Fiesta! Visitors to the farmers markets were asked to fill in a simple form and rate the oils in order of preference.

And the winners ....

At the Victor Harbor Farmers Market the punters’ first choice was Serendipity, the runner up Diana. At the Willunga Farmers Market the first choice was Hugo with Diana again a close second.

Judges described the winning oil as grassy, green nose gorgeous, complex, long palate, good palate and bouquet Punters described the oil as – Rich, full flavoured, grassy on the nose and wonderful.

The Punters’ Pick was a very successful event, professionally run and of considerable value to the local industry in terms of valuable consumer feedback. Our thanks go to both Victor Harbor and Willunga Farmers Markets for the exceptional venues and assistance with this event.
